I am making the world better by leading or solo-maintaining over forty open-source projects. These include important bits of infrastructure like GPSD and giflib; also, widely-used tools such as reposurgeon, deheader, coverity-submit, irkerd, doclifter, and cvs-fast-export.
I wrote “The Cathedral and the Bazaar” and helped found the modern open-source movement. I've been working to strengthen the hacker culture and fighting for network freedom for decades. One of the many FAQs I maintain is “How To Become A Hacker”.
You rely on my software every time you use a cellphone or a browser or a game console or even an ATM. If you think of yourself as a hacker or a geek, I'm one of the pioneers that shaped your culture. If you get paid to work on open-source software, I probably wrote down the business model that supports your job.
It'd be nice if all that turned into enough money for me to live on.
